About

Preventing, Restoring, Building, Uniting, Sustaining. As we grow, we learn and we act to empower those we work with in Thailand and Burma.

Openaid started in Melbourne, Australia, founded by our Executive Director Justin Whitecross in 2002. Openaid envisions a community of people creating responses to both reduce the poverty and exploitation of girls from poor families, and to lessen the long term damage to trafficked and abused girls.

Pattaya

Earlier today, I met with staff in Pattaya ‘headquarters’ to discuss project work in villages and communities in Chonburi.

PILC and Jesters sponsored projects in 2009. Small business ventures, like mushroom and fish farms, enable schools to support girls stuck in poverty. Money produced buys food, petrol for motorbikes, clothing and school equipment.

We have prioritised projects with 5 schools to engage with families and villages in abject poverty. We are nurturing relationships with a further 10 schools but fuinding restrictions continue to slow project formation.

BBQ program in Melbourne is producing astonishing results and money is used to run Openaid. We started the organisation with ‘BBQ money’ and everybody involved is passionate about the BBQ continuing and contributing successfully. But start-up funding cannot sustain the growth of Openaid and strategic development of programs and workforce.

Sponsors are invited to discuss their priorities and particular needs. Please email office@openaid.org.au to discuss sponsorship options.
